06jan23- Cool Science Experiments to Try at Home: Making Fake Snow and Growing Crystals

Science experiments are a fun and educational way to learn about the world around us, and there are plenty of experiments that you can do right in your own home! Here are two cool experiments to try:

Making Fake Snow

This experiment is a great way to learn about the properties of solids and liquids. You will need:

  • Baking soda
  • Contact lens solution

To start, pour a small amount of baking soda into a bowl. Then add a few drops of contact lens solution and mix. The baking soda will start to clump and form a ball. You can add more contact lens solution to make the “snow” fluffier, or add more baking soda to make it drier. You can also add food coloring to make the fake snow different colors.

Growing Crystals

This experiment is a great way to learn about solids and the structure of crystals. You will need:

  • Epsom salt
  • Water
  • A small jar or container

To start, mix together equal parts Epsom salt and water in the jar or container. The water should be hot, but not boiling. Stir the mixture until the salt is dissolved. Then let the mixture cool and put it in the refrigerator to allow the crystals to form. You may need to wait a few days for the crystals to grow.
